Rules & F.A.Q.
Our rules are fairly simple, but must be adhered too. The guidelines are about things you should know regarding the game and posting, tags, tips, etc. This is still a bit of a work in progress.
- Players/Muns must be at least thirteen years of age, as per the site’s Terms of Service. Players under the age of eighteen years of age may not participate in sexual or otherwise overly adult posts/threads, and thus such posts should be set to Age Restriction: 18+ (which can be done on the posting page/edit post page by the original poster) either to begin with or if the replies go in that direction. Players under the age of eighteen caught trying to subvert this system will be warned, if not outright banned.
- Power playing/godmoding/other forms of controlling player characters not your own without permission is, of course, not allowed.
- There is no application! Feel free to join and start posting.
- OOC bashing, character bashing and flamewars are not allowed.
- Posts with especially violent or sexual content should be marked as thus. See this FAQ about adult content warnings. Anything you think will trigger others or spoilers for new shows/books/etc should be marked as well.
- Characters of all sorts are welcome, including fandom characters (and fandom OC's), Original characters, characters of all ages and kinds ("Under age" characters should not be involved in sexual scenes. Under age being 15 and under for the purpose of characters only. I say this because there are many places and time periods where 16 or even under is/was an acceptable age to society to be considered somewhat adult in such matters.). Posts of a non-adult nature are equally as welcome as those of one.
Guidelines:
More suggestions than rules, but still good to read.
- If you like exploring different aspects of the same character, feel free to do so here. You can have entirely different 'verses for the same character if it suits you. If you do use 'verses we suggest that you have a post in your account giving some details about the differences, just for reference and that you say which 'verse it is either in the post itself or in the location field.
- We have no stylistic guide to what form of rping you have to do here. No required tense or wordcount... however most prefer third person, past tense. But that doesn't mean it's all that's welcome.
- We have tags! Admins are the only one who can make them but once they're made you're welcome to add them to your posts, encouraged even. Need a tag? Request one on the help & suggestions post.
- Have as many characters as you like. Post and comment as you like. Unless the post is specified as locked to someone or some group, have at it.
- This is certainly not a rule, but if you have invite codes and would like to donate them for people who want to join the game, please leave them in the help & suggestions post (where replies are screened so people can't steal them) and I will give them to people who want to join/want to join a character but haven't gotten a code yet. It may well be the best way to help our community and the DW rpg community grow.
F.A.Q.
General Questions:
Why Dreamwidth instead of LJ/IJ/Other site?
Personally, in the long term I think Dreamwidth to be a more friendly site in general, and would like to encourage it’s growth and popularity and thus hopefully it’s sucess. While this game and myself are only a part of the DW community, everyone counts.
But DW uses invite codes at the moment, and they’re hard to get! It makes it harder to join and will turn people away.
Codes can be a pain to get, but I’m going to do my best to always have a couple to give out to interested members. And while no, I can’t guarentee that people will use them for playing in this comm - or even elsewhere - whoever I give them too might be at least interested in the site, which can’t be a bad thing.
If you have codes and are interested in the community growing, by all means I’d love to have them to give out to potential members - oor for you to give them to people you know would be interested in the game.
If you really want to join and show some love to dreamwidth, you can buy an account for as little as one month of paid time ($3) though I know this isn’t for everyone.
How do we know this game is going to stick around when so many are quiet/have folded?
In short? We don’t. But I have a great personal enthusiasm for this game, because the premise gives a lot of room for storylines of all kinds and settings that can change and meld. I’m going to do my best to keep people joining and posting. Possibly even implimenting (optional) events if there is interest. Also, your administrator is online more often than not usually... so that helps
I’m confused about some feature of DW and/or the game, help?
If it’s to do with Dreamwidth itself, first try the site F.A.Q. but if it’s about the game or the F.A.Q. just doesn’t help, I’ll do my best to help. Go and ask on the Help & Suggestions post.
Is there an out of character community so I can chat/plot with other members and keep up to date with game updates?
There is! You can find it at

Characters/Accounts Questions:
I play on another game here on DW and want to bring my character in without leaving the other game, is that okay?
Absolutely. You can play here as long as you've got an account, I don't care if you're in other games or not.

Since it can be a pain to get accounts at the moment, do I have to have one account per character?
Certainly not. It's up to you. This might be the best option, really, unless you like using icons a lot. Free accounts get 15 icons - if you want 15 characters, or even just a few with a couple of icons each it should suit you fine. Just make sure people know who they're playing with, character wise. It might also be a good idea to put a bit of info on each character in the bio. However if you prefer the one character per account thing, that is cool as well.
I have multiple versions of the same character, or play them from different time periods. Are they all welcome here? Do they need different accounts each?
They are certainly most welcome, and provided you make it clear which you are playing in a post/thread, can happily be on the same account. A good way is to write down (at least basically) what is different between the 'verses/storylines and naming them (even something as simple as future!verse) and referencing the appropriate one in the main post if you posted it, or the first comment if you're replying to someone elses. So people know the differences the previously mention basics should be on your journal somewhere.
I have a character who is dead, can they be here?
Odd as it may sound I've seen this before, and yes they're welcome! They could be ghosts if you like or some other kind of spirit. But they can also seem alive enough, and this be like a sort of afterlife - admittedly a strange and sometimes confusing one.
Someone else is using the same pb/character as me! Why?
This is a nexus. Expect multiples, especially if you play a popular character or use a popular celebrity for icons. it can be throwing to some people, but it can be a lot of fun as well... and as nexus' go? A wood that changes on whims of it own is fairly strange to begin with. I don't think a little more strange is necessarily a bad thing.
